Rajganj: Dr. Pinaki Narayan Maitra and his family celebrated the 80th Independence Day in a meaningful and different way by extending a helping hand to underprivileged tea garden workers and children.
On Saturday, Independence Day, a social service programme was organised at Surya Tea Resort in the Bhandibari area of Rajganj block, Jalpaiguri district. During the programme, essential food items were distributed among 100 tea garden workers from nearby tea gardens, while 50 children were provided with nutritious food.
Dr. Pinaki Narayan Maitra has been carrying out such social welfare initiatives for the past six years in collaboration with Grandmaster Han Wong of Edinburgh, Scotland. He said that these initiatives to support underprivileged people would continue in the coming days.
Dr. Maitra was accompanied by his father, Partha Narayan Maitra, his mother, Suparna Maitra, and Advocate Santosh Sarkar. The Maitra family has been actively involved in various social welfare programmes not only in Bhandibari Tea Garden but also across several tea garden areas of North Bengal.
A celebration that brought the spirit of Independence Day closer to those in need, making the occasion truly meaningful.
