The programme was attended by North Bengal Medical College and Hospital Superintendent Dr Kaushik Ishwar and Rekha Mallick, Deputy Pradhan of Matigara-I Gram Panchayat. After floral tributes were offered to Khudiram Bose, the national flag was hoisted and the national anthem was sung. This was followed by the blood donation programme, in which 12 people donated blood.
North Bengal Medical College and Hospital Superintendent Dr Kaushik Ishwar praised the initiative taken by social worker Patiram Roy. He said that the medical college has a constant demand for blood throughout the year. Organising a blood donation drive with 12 donors on a significant occasion like Martyrdom Day is a commendable initiative.
He also said that Patiram Roy remains involved in various social welfare activities throughout the year.
Rekha Mallick, Deputy Pradhan of Matigara-I Gram Panchayat, said that organising a blood donation programme alongside paying floral tributes and hoisting the national flag on Martyrdom Day is a meaningful initiative. It not only pays tribute to Khudiram Bose but also contributes towards saving lives.
Patiram Roy, the organiser of the programme, said that he has been organising such initiatives since 2021. He said, “Khudiram Bose gave his blood and sacrificed his life for the country. So, on his martyrdom anniversary, we are also observing the day by donating blood.”
